About McHale Beach

After 34 years of of coaching volleyball at multiple levels, long time coach Tim McHale opened McHale Beach Volleyball in the fall of 2021.  McHale recognized the need to help players and coaches in Arizona grow their respective games to the next level. 

Coach McHale's resume is vast and arguably one of the most decorated in AZ history in Beach and Indoor. Coach McHale is the beach volleyball program Head Coach at Xavier College Preparatory School where he has won 8 state titles since he began the program in 2012. His success helped him earn 6 Region Coach of Year awards and 3 State Coach of the year honors. During his time at Xavier, McHale has mentored players that have gone on to play beach at ASU, Stanford, TCU, USC, Arizona, Oregon, Pepperdine, Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, LMU, LSU, Stetson, Cal State Northridge, San Jose State, and Boise State.

Coach McHale being no stranger to the club scene headed up fledgling beach volleyball programs for Fortitude Club Volleyball and then at Beach House Volleyball, an indoor beach volleyball facility in Peoria AZ. McHale’s athletes from both programs made appearances at the AAU West Coast J.O. Championship, AAU Beach National Championships AVP America Junior Nationals, BVNE Championships and the USAV Junior National Beach Championships. Athletes from these programs that went on to play beach for Utah, Oregon, GCU, Washington, UCLA, Benedictine, OUAZ, Park University and South Mountain CC.

Prior to coaching beach volleyball McHale was was at the helm of the Xavier College Preparatory indoor volleyball team at amassing 400+ wins, 6 state championships, 2 runners up and 10 semifinal appearances in the largest AIA classification in AZ. McHale garnered AZ Volleyball Coach of the Year for the Arizona Coaches Association in 2002, 2005, and 2008. He has helped over 130 athletes get to the collegiate level and procure scholarships through his work as a high school, club volleyball coach in Arizona. Early in his career McHale assisted the Phoenix College women's volleyball team for 3 seasons and helped guide the Bears to their first top 10 NJCAA ranking in program history.

McHale was born in Quantico, VA into a large military family, but raised here in AZ. He is currently a teacher for the Peoria School District where he teaches Language Arts and History. He is married to his wife, Sara and they have four children: Annika, Kellen, Delaney, and Keegan.
